Remote Desktop Connection using VMWare


Objective
To establish a connection between two operating systems using the Windows XP Remote Desktop connection and  VMWare.

Equipment
The following equipment is required for this exercise:
•    Two computer systems with Windows XP Professional installed
·         Two computer system with VMWare installed.
·         Two Virtual computer with windows xp as the Operating System installed in VMWare

Procedures
Step 1: Creating Two Virtual Machine in VMWare
1.    In VMWare Click The home tab and click new virtual machine

Then follow the installation wizard to install the operating system  needed in this tutorial to create virtual machines on VMWare.




Step 2: Setup the remote computer
Creating a user account on Windows XP and enable remote access
1. Click Start > Control Panel >Administrative Tools
2. Select Computer Management
3. On Computer management select local users and groups> and right click on Users




4. Set a username and a password  .
4. Click Start >Control Panel >System
5. Select the Remote tab and click Allow users to remotely connect to this computer. This is shown below.




6. Click Select Remote Users…
7. Click Add to add the RemoteUser account.
8. Clicking Advanced > Find Now
9. Select RemoteUser and click OK



Set 4: Creating each Virtual Machine with an IP address on the Windows XP machine

1. click Start >Control Panel  Network Connections
2. Right click on the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties
3. Click on the General tab, select Internet Protocols(TCP/IP) and click Properties
4. Select Use the following IP address and set up the address and subnet mask shown below




5. Repeat the previous steps for the Win XP machine, this time using the address 192.168.0.2





Step 5: Using the remote desktop connection to enable connection between Xp Machines
On the Win XP Machine
1. Open the Start menu and select All Programs >Accessories> Communications >Remote Desktop Connection
2. Then, type in the username that you want to connect with or type in the IP address of the Remote Computer that you set up earlier 192.168.0.1




3. Next, click on Connect. At this point, the client computer will attempt to make a connection. When a connection is made, a logon screen will appear. Then type the username. Type in the password, and then click the OK button.
4. Now you are connected.
